Worth knowing

Why bee pollen is different

Bee pollen is the hive's main source of protein and amino acids, used to nourish developing bees and support the colony.

That nutrient density is what makes it so unique. Bee pollen naturally contains all essential amino acids, along with vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, enzymes, flavonoids and polyphenols.

Because heat can reduce some of its more delicate compounds, ours is kept as raw granules rather than heavily processed powder.

What it helps with

Complete nutrition in one spoon

It contains every essential amino acid, a full spread of vitamins and minerals, enzymes and coenzymes, essential fatty acids, flavonoids and polyphenols. Pollen is the bee's own protein source and it holds everything needed to sustain life.

This is a whole food rather than a supplement. Your body reads it as food, which is not true of a capsule.

Menopause, hot flushes and night sweats

As oestrogen drops, the hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, brain fog, low libido and flat exhaustion tend to arrive together. Bee pollen is rich in plant compounds, B vitamins, amino acids and antioxidants. It works on those symptoms without introducing a synthetic hormone.

It is used most by women who cannot take HRT and by women who simply do not want to.

Fertility and hormonal health

Ovarian function, egg quality and menstrual balance all depend on nutrients that are easy to fall short on and bee pollen carries most of them in a single spoonful.

Oxidative stress is one of the biggest drivers of infertility and pollen is dense in the antioxidants that counter it, alongside the zinc and B vitamins that reproduction runs on.

Testosterone, stamina and male vitality

Testosterone production runs on zinc, on B vitamins and on antioxidants. Bee pollen carries all three in a form the body reads as food rather than as a tablet.

It has been taken as a male tonic for stamina and drive for as long as people have collected it and the modern work sits mostly in sperm quality, motility and protection against oxidative damage.

Energy, focus and the afternoon crash

High in B vitamins and in the enzymes that turn food into usable energy. Taken traditionally for fatigue, for burnout and for the kind of tiredness that sleep does not fix.

This is the one most people notice first.

Immune support

It supports white blood cell activity and is rich in quercetin and other immune modulating compounds.

The antioxidant load is the other half of it. Less oxidative stress means an immune system with less to clean up before it gets to the real work.

How to use

One method. Raw, daily, with food.

01

Raw, daily, with food

Start with 1 tablespoon a day and build up to 2.

Take it straight off the spoon on its own, or stir it through yoghurt, smoothies or cereal.

Morning and afternoon suits most people. The afternoon spoonful is the one that catches the three o'clock crash.

Never heat it. High temperatures destroy the enzymes and much of the vitamin content. What you are left with is an expensive sprinkle.

Why Australian Raw Bee Pollen?

Most bee pollen on the shelf is imported, powdered, irradiated or heavily processed. Ours is raw bee pollen granules collected from the Redgum and Jarrah forests of Southern Western Australia, wild sourced, ethically harvested and never heat treated.

That is why the granules are naturally uneven in size and vary in colour from golden yellow to deep orange, a reflection of the different flowers and pollens collected by the bees.

The research

What the research found

Bee pollen has been studied most notably for menopausal symptoms, quality of life and reproductive health.

  • Hot flushes and quality of life: A standardised pollen extract has been studied in menopausal women, with improvements reported in hot flushes, fatigue, irritability and overall quality of life.
  • Without oestrogenic activity: Laboratory analysis of the pollen extract found no oestrogen-like activity, which is one reason pollen preparations have attracted interest for women who cannot use hormone therapy.
  • Female reproductive health: Experimental research has investigated bee pollen for ovarian follicles and inflammation within the reproductive tract.
  • Male fertility: Research has also explored effects on sperm quality, motility and oxidative stress, although much of this work remains experimental.
  • Nutritional density: Bee pollen naturally contains all essential amino acids, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, fatty acids, flavonoids and polyphenols.

Its appeal is therefore not based on one compound alone, but on an unusually broad combination of nutrients and bioactive plant compounds.
